One way to begin writing Chinese characters is to start with the eight basic strokes in Chinese calligraphy: 點 (dot), 横 (line), 撇 (curve), 捺 (press), 豎 (vertical), 折 (corner), 鈎 (hook), and 提 (pick). With these basic strokes, we can start to learn some simple characters that are easy to recognise and have simple stroke order.
Here are six simple characters to explore the foundation of Chinese writing — 人 (person), 大 (big), 天 (sky), 夫 (man), 木 (wood), 禾 (grain). Grab a pen and paper with your little one, and let's get started!
