The Origin and Etymology of "雨"
The Chinese character 雨 (jyu5/yǔ) is a pictograph representing rain, originating from oracle bone scripts that depicted water droplets falling from a horizontal line representing the sky. The earliest form resembled a pictograph of a roof or sky with drops below, clearly depicting rain.
Over time, the form became more rounded and structured, still bounding line that signifies the sky, with falling rain below. But the structure remained the largely the same through its evoluation as a visual representation of rain.
