The Origin and Etymology of "春"
While its form has changed over thousands of years, its meaning hasn’t. The character 春 started as a simple pictograph of a sprouting plant in oracle bones. Over time, its parts evolved: the 艸 as blades of grass, 屯 as a sprouting shoot, and 日 symbolising the sun. Even as the shapes simplified into the modern form, the original idea stayed the same: spring is the season of new life and growth.
